So, last week I eagerly awaited the delivery of my shiny new Tamron 17-50 2.8 XR Di lens.
I have been dying to get a decent fast wide angle for ages now. So anyway, the lens arrives as planned, I wack it on the front of my D70s and happily snap away taking some test shots.
With third party lenses such as Tamron and Sigma the quality control can be a bit hit and miss.
So, after the test shots I found the lens to produce awesome clarity, contrast and colours. Excellent! No! After further testing I found that the Tamron struggled to gain proper focus lock using the other focus points other than centre.
The weird thing is, using manual focus I can get a nice sharp shot no matter what focus point I use. It's all down to a poor AF system. It may have something to do with the D70s and the lens AF-S.
Anyway, the lens if off to Tamron under warranty. Shame really, Tamron did well with the quality of glass in this but only let down by the poor AF system.
Ill keep you posted, incase your looking into buying a Tamron lens
